  • Comment: This binomial is a later homonym of S. compactum Bory de Saint Vincent 1826 Voyage autour du monde, execute par ordre du Roi, sur la corvette de Sa Majeste, la _Coquille_, pendant les annees 1822, 1823, 1824 et 1825. Botanique p. 126-127. This fact was noted in Grunow 1915 Verhandlungen der Kaiserlich-Koniglichen Zoologisch-Botanischen Gessellschaft in Wien 65:401 who lists Sargassum compostum Zan. in Just. 1874.
